For Immediate Release (Ponca City, Ok. April 24, 2020)
The Bass Pro Shops/Cabela’s North American Bass Challenge Circuit and the Sturgeon Bay Open Bass Tournament Committee has stayed in regular contact with Wisconsin officials. Due to the extended “Safer at Home” orders laid out by the executive order of Wisconsin Governor Tony Evers, we must reschedule the 30th Annual Sturgeon Bay Open Bass Tournament (SBOBT) presented by Mercury and Ranger Boats, slated for May 15-16. The event will be combined with the annual fall event and will be held in Sturgeon Bay out of Sawyer Park. All prizes including early bird registration prizes, a new Ranger boat powered by Mercury Outboard Motor and all entry fees/registrations will be transferred to the new dates of September 11-12, 2020.
The NABC and SBOBT Committee will continue to follow state and local rules while working diligently to keep our anglers, local host communities and staff safe. A new event fact sheet is on the website reflecting the change in dates and location to Sawyer Park in Sturgeon Bay.
The new dates are combined with our annual fall event that was scheduled for that time frame but will now expand into a two-day event, with added features and a new location making it a bigger better event for all anglers as well as our host community in Door County.
Teams who previously registered for the May 15-16 event dates will automatically have their registration moved to the new dates. Those that cannot make these new dates may email us at email@example.com or call the national office to request a refund.
“We do not take moving events lightly.” Stated NABC President Robert Cartlidge. “But the safety of our anglers, their family, the local host communities in which we do business and our staff will always be our first priority. We know that our anglers and communities put these dates on their calendars long in advance and moving them disrupts vacation time, lodging, tourism and workflow for not just our anglers in the US and Canada, site hosts, sponsors and staff but for us as a company, it costs us all. Like all of you we are taking this unprecedented situation day by day until it passes.”
“The SBOBT Committee is dedicated to the Sturgeon Bay/Door County area in these difficult times. We are committed to bring revenue into the community that has made the Sturgeon Bay Open Bass Tournament a success for the past 30 years” said SBOBT Committee President Wendy Heim. “We look forward to seeing the anglers and their families in Sturgeon Bay come September along with the spectators from the Sturgeon Bay area.”
